Let’s be honest. The world is on fire. As we look around at this tragic hellscape that has become what many of us call daily living, some of us want to spend our remaining shred of hope, and time left, to gather, and resist.
Community is built with intention. Intention shines through every action we make; actions are louder than words, and this world needs people of action to help it heal. This world needs community, a return to our roots, and a collective effort that is bigger than any one of us. Our souls are screaming for it.
Every journey begins with the first step, and a willingness to be open to the experience. We have to learn to trust our intuition, and have the confidence to take up space – and encourage others to do the same. We can take up space without taking space away from someone else.
That is exactly what Trish Dickert-Nieves and I set out to do with our project: The Embodied Women’s Wellness Experience. Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. Women need to gather. We need a container that allows us to show up as exactly where we are in our journey and truly feel seen, supported, encouraged, and valued. So we gathered.
We started reaching out to other women who we have seen pouring their hearts and souls into the community. These women were fearlessly offering parts of their soul to help others and we love that. We love to share what we love, so we gathered these amazing women with these unique gifts – and we sat together over coffee, surrounded by flowers. The energy was so on point. Ideas flowed out like a spiral, mutual respect was in great abundance. And we collectively created an event that sets out to help other women gather in community and plant seeds of healing.
Last night, I sat there with Stephanie Uhranowsky, one of the trailblazers of this event: Embodied Women’s Retreat, and creator of This Wild Thing, in her amazing bell tent. Yes, this bad ass woman has her very own bell tent that is her own personal “primitive living” sanctuary that during rain, shine, freezing temps and snow: Steph can be found in here thriving, and living her best life. No wonder why we asked her to join us on this journey of sacred feminine discovery, wonder, community building, and so much more.
We just wrapped up an awesome fire side chat that was long overdue and deeply needed. Wild women need to gather. We need to feel the earth on our feet, and feel safe to be vulnerable with each other. We were about to talk a little bit about all things Steph, but we paused to hear a fox yelling in the background. It sounded like a screaming child to me at first but I couldn’t help smiling when I looked over at Step whose face completely lit up at the sound. We sat there for a moment in silence, smiling, and listening to a fox speaking out to the world.
It was magical.
I had brought a bunch of supplies so we can each make a vision board, Steph’s idea; and a few loose questions I wanted to ask her so anyone who was thinking about coming to to this event, can get to know her a bit before the big day. We were so immersed in the moment and the magic of gathering like this, that we barely could finish our vision boards, and I failed to write anything down.

Relying on my memory (that is funny if you know me), I will share a few things that managed to be saved. The fact that I am even writing this is a true testament of who Steph is and how she inspires. Our free flowing conversation last night spiraled out in many directions so this interview is mostly paraphrased.
So Steph, thank you for allowing me to invite myself to your home and sanctuary. From the moment I arrived, I knew the space you have created is truly special. You truly embody This Wild Thing in every aspect of your life. Thank you for allowing me to ask you some questions, have thought provoking conversations with me, and then allowing me to share this story with anyone who ends up reading it.
I asked Steph to tell me a little bit about herself. What a loaded question, right? In what context, in what format, in what capacity? Good questions for the interviewer.
We talked about her role as Executive Director at a local watershed association, her master’s degree (along with its hefty price tag), and some of the invitations she’s received to speak or teach through her This Wild Thing platform. For a long time, imposter syndrome led her to turn those opportunities down—until now.
We talked about titles, and status, and how those things are not as important or meaningful to her as they might be to others. Her true passion lies in sharing her art, her way of being, and her skills with the world to inspire others to do the same. Her deep connection to the wild didn’t come from credentials, but from lived experience, insatiable curiosity, and time spent in relationship with the natural world.
“So basically you are teaching people how to come back to earth,” I said.
Steph lit up with her contagious smile, and said, “Exactly! How do you even put that into words?”
You don’t. You just have to experience it.
This is the journey we are asking you to take with us. To gather, to connect, and have honest, raw conversations; all the things that WE have been sharing with you so far on our page.
As a Feralist, Steph guides others in reconnecting with their inner and outer wild – blending practical, ancestral skills with deeper work that cultivates confidence, awareness, and trust in both body and mind. Together, we begin to unlearn limiting roles and social conditioning, explore boundaries and safety from a place of empowerment rather than fear, and rediscover what it means to move through the world as instinctual, intuitive, expressive, and self-directed human animals.
At the heart of this work is community, both human and other-than-human. It’s about rebuilding relationships: with each other, with the land, and with the living world around us. Rooted in nature and supported by connection, this is an invitation to come back home to ourselves, with resilience, belonging, freedom, and a deep, undeniable joy.
